Wow, that was fast, and I never even got far enough on their site to buy them; it just kept crashing. Kind of a bummer.

I was on the last step of the checkout process before it decided to give me some cryptic errors and then fail when I tried to go back to edit my cart. arrgh

Webmaster, pretty much the same here. I timed out at the same point as you and it kicked me back to the beginning.

Please, for the love of God, get another ticket service besides ******* ******* Ticketweb. It sucks.

It is an exact replay of what happened to me when I tried to get Smashing Pumpkins tickets.

never could even get the ticketweb site to come up after 3:55.
by 4:28 i got it to. and it asked me how many tixx i wanted. then said sold out.

One thing the Orange Peel should do is release the actual amount of tickets that are being sold at the box office. That would spur people to actually line up and buy tickets and if the line exceeds the amount of tickets being sold that would allow folks to attempt to make it home to buy tickets online. Simply announcing that they had “been given a very limited quantity of tickets” for the box office is silly.

This sucks out loud.  I really wish that if a band is going to play a club instead of somewhere like the Civic Center that could hold all its fans, that the club or promoter would use a lottery system or something.

Tried forever to connect to the site, kept crashing.  Got annoyed and actually drove to the peel thinking maybe the line wont be so long.  Yeah right, it was all the way down the street!! what the hell?! something is not right here.  Orange Peel drops the ball again. that is so not cool.

God this town is full of whiners.

I don’t entirely know what people want from the Orange Peel here. Would it be better if they used Ticketmaster for their online sales? Then everyone would have to pay something like $10 more in service fees every time they bought a ticket.

It sucks and it’s disappointing not to get tickets, but this is a band that could sell out a much, much larger venue. It’s easy math. Thousands of people looking for tickets, not enough for everyone. The Beastie Boys have nine announced dates on their current tour. You can bet people from well outside the WNC area are trying for tickets.

This was a last-minute announcement and the Orange Peel only had a certain number of tickets to sell at the door. They did what they could.

Well if A.C. Entertainment can move the Lucinda Williams concert from Thomas Wolfe Auditorium to the Orange Peel because of low ticket pre-sales, why can’t they reverse the process when demand for tickets is so high that the system crashes, resulting in people who were online at the proper time still having no chance whatsoever to buy them?

I’m pretty sure the Beastie Boys and their management knew they could sell out Thomas Wolfe or the Civic Center, or a host of other even larger venues in the Southeast. It’s similar to why Phish is playing the Civic Center, when they could sell out 10,000+ arenas. The Smashing Pumpkins, too, could’ve played plenty of other, larger places.

6 hours in line, skipping(most)of the workday = thousands of $$$ of income lost
seeing the B-Boys in a club setting = priceless

I hate Ticketmaster, but in this case, yes.

My beef is not with the OP, but with Ticketweb.  Twice now they have proven that they don’t have what it takes to handle the crush of traffic.

There’s not too many acts that I haven’t seen, but The Beastie Boys are one of the few, and I love them.  Ah well…

Here’s the answer.  If the OP is gonna have a show, they should at least be able to handle ticket sales in-house.  Ticketweb and Ticketmaster are everything wrong with live music today.

BTW, none of that was meant to minimize any suffering. I feel ya, for reals. I wonder who got tix??

Props to the Orange Peel for booking The Smashing Pumpkins and The Beastie Boys, but please get a new system before you book Jane’s Addiction.

Ha ha, like that would ever happen.  Jane’s Addiction is playing the 18,5000-seat Verizon Amphitheater in Charlotte 2 nights after the Beasties will be at the 900-standing room Peel.  Btw good seats are still availaable and yes I have mine.

I agree with Rebecca.  Do the math.  And it wouldn’t be any better with ticketmasa.  I’ve had trouble with them the same way.  Didn’t we all collectively bitcha when Tom Waits came to town (anyone remember how many of us couldn’t get in their either?)  Quit yer whining.  Some folks around town got tix, some didn’t.  Also, the location does not control the performer.  Props to the Peel for being on the radar screen for national acts.  I’d rather roll the dice and get a shot at seeing the B-Boys or Smashing P-kins there than have to schlep to G’ville or Charlotte.

I also got two tix in my cart, put in the payment information, it said processing, then kicked me out.  If I recall the OP did box office only for Bob Dylan, that would have been a good idea for this on too.  Especially since there is a history of problems with tixweb.  sigh.  I love the OP and love the bands they book.  They always do a great job, too bad their ticket purveyor doesn’t stand up to the same standard.

Yes, it would have been cool to have a lottery for locals only, but that is not the way these things work.  The Orange Peel had no control over the amount of tickets that the Beastie Boys were going to give to the box office.  And on top of that, as frustrating as Ticket Web is for high demand shows like this, I would rather use them than Ticket Master.  This pretty much worked like it was supposed to.

So what defines a local?  That brings up the old who’s a local Asheville debate.  Do you have to live in Asheville for ten years before you qualify for a Beastie Boy ticket?  Doesn’t someone in Johnson City or Boone have as much right to the ticket?

I am fine with the fact that the tickets went fast, and I’m okay with the fact that I didn’t get tickets for a show that was in very high demand.  I think it’s really cool that a band this size chose to play a smaller venue, and I recognize that that means not everyone is going to get in.

Aftr reading the discussions on the Orange Peel website’s Noteboard, I would go even further and say that some people were able to game the system.  It rewarded aggressiveness.  Opening multiple browser windows and continually refreshing them, while overloading the system, did in fact work for those who did it.  It increased their odds of getting tickets, while diminishing the odds of those who didn’t.  The system rewarded cutting in line, or obnoxiousness, if you will.
