FROM THE LOCAL RED CROSS MANAGER:

I try not to fill up your inbox unless I have something really important to say. Well, today is one of those days! The inclement weather over the past few weeks has resulted in more than 2,000 units of blood that could not be collected due to cancelled blood drives and the inability of donors to attend blood drives. Today alone, we lost an additional 136 units due to snow. We are predicted to get more snow over the weekend which will likely force the cancellation of even more blood drives in our community. In an effort to help where I can, I am opening the blood donation center at the Red Cross Building from 2:00pm – 6:00pm tonight (Friday) and we will be open again tomorrow morning from 7:30am – 12:30pm (weather permitting). If you are eligible, please try to donate today or tomorrow! As always, feel free to call me directly at the numbers listed below, or call 1-800-RedCross to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are always welcome at the Asheville Blood Donation Center, but appointments are honored first.
