"As we begin a new year -- eager to expand partnerships with WNC schools and other organizations around HIV prevention; optimistic that NC legislators will prioritize access to life-saving medications for those affected by HIV/AIDS; and hopeful that together we can overcome the problem of HIV-stigma in our communities -- it seems like a great time to highlight the national "It Gets Better" project. The video linked below features President Obama and several White House staffers delivering messages of hope and encouragement to LGBT youth. The project originated in response to several high profile suicides in 2010. LGBTQ youth and allies may also be interested in an announcement from the local organization Youth OUTright, featured below. Link to White House 'It Gets Better' video."
Local nonprofit and WNCAP partner Youth OUTright is hosting a reception on Wednesday, January 19th from 5-7 pm at the historic Manor Inn on Charlotte Street. Come learn how this organization is working to provide a safe space and resources for LGBTQ youth in the WNC region while educating youth and the larger community on important issues such as bullying, harassment and discrimination."
