Area girls ages 9-14 are invited to a SciGirls program featuring “High Tech Fashion” at PARI Tuesday, April 26, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The program is part of the monthly SciGirls series at PARI and is affiliated with the national effort to engage girls in science sponsored by Twin Cities Public Television.
“The April SciGirls program will feature technology applications in fashion design,” said Christi Whitworth, PARI education director. “We will learn about conductive and insulating materials, then challenge the girls to design a clothing or fashion décor item that incorporates an LED and battery assembly. The project will emphasize fun, and by the end of the session each girl should have a working prototype of her creation. As with all our SciGirls programs, we’ll be exploring a different facet of science and forging connections to that field for pursuits beyond the regular monthly program.”
PARI hosts a SciGirls event the last Tuesday of each month. The participation fee is $10 per student and all girls ages 9-14 are eligible. Program details, specific hours and registration details can be found on the PARI web site, www.pari.edu. Area teachers and parents are asked to encourage girls who may be interested.
