Tyler Ramsey's had a busy year. As a guitarist with Band of Horses, he's played everywhere from Bonnaroo to Carnegie Hall. The band played with Willie Nelson in Maui, and Ramsey and BOH frontman Ben Bridwell performed at Pete Seeger's 90th birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden, a concert that was later aired on PBS.

Ramsey's 2008 release, A Long Dream About Swimming Across the Sea, met wide acclaim, and he tells Xpress he'll be back in the studio early next year for another solo album. Band of Horses, too, will be wrapping up a new release.

Jason Sandford caught up with Ramsey before his Saturday show at the Grey Eagle. Many thanks to videographer Jesse Hamm. Watch and see who wins the Battle of the Beards.

    • Thanks for the great video! I knew I should have gone to this show. Very cool stuff Tyler is doing nowadays. I have lots of audio recordings of him when he had the Tyler Ramsey Trio going years ago. One of those shows I saw he did a solo acoustic opening set. In hindsight it seems like that was a foreshadow to his current music. I am going to have to dig out that recording sometime.

    • would like to hear some of those recordings of TRT. I was the bassist and as many times as i saw someone recording the shows, i rarely got a copy. I'm definitely proud of Tyler and it was evident then that his path was as a guitarist/songwriter. Glad to have shared some music with you T.
