Renovations will close the Buncombe County Law Library from Monday, Jan. 5, until April, County Manager Wanda Greene told Xpress today.
"We have serious space limitations," Greene said. "When we renovate it, the computers will be in the front of the library, and there will be two offices for lawyers to use in the back."
The law library, located on the 10th floor of the courthouse, is used by the public as well as lawyers. It contains books and online databases. The library emphasizes North Carolina law and features an extensive collection of legal decisions, session laws and other materials.
Greene said the county has no intention of closing the library or shelving the collection of print materials permanently, although some law books will be discarded and others will be kept in storage when the library re-opens. The renovations should be finished in four months, according to Greene.
