Asheville City Council member Robin Cape told Xpress on Monday that she plans to run for a second term on City Council in 2009.

“There’s a lot to learn and I’ve done the learning,” Cape said, referring to the learning curve Council members undertake when elected. “The joke I say is, 'I know where the bathroom is, so I may as well get some work done.'”

Council member Carl Mumpower, for his part, said he has not yet decided if he is going to try for a third term.

“I don’t know that I’m running again,” he said. In November, Mumpower lost his election bid against Rep. Heath Shuler.

Meanwhile, Mayor Terry Bellamy last month publicly announced her intent to run for re-election next year in order to squelch rumors that she may leave for Raleigh to work on newly elected Gov. Bev Purdue's staff.
