At their meeting Tuesday, the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners will hear from the Environmental Protection Agency and county staff about the state of the heavily contaminated former CTS of Asheville site. They may also hear from citizens and activists angered about the local, state and federal governments' handling of the situation.
Activists and residents living near the Mills Gap Road site have promised a silent protest against what they assert is a lack of clear answers from officials and the state Department of Environmental and Natural Resources' recent proposal of a voluntary deal with CTS that would limit the company's liability for the cleanup.
The commissioners will also hear the Buncombe County Sheriff's Office annual report.
The commissioners will meet on Tuesday, April 7, at 4:30 p.m. at 30 Valley St. A short pre-meeting review of the agenda items starts at 4:15 p.m.
