One of the gripes regularly leveled at the Mountain Xpress forums is that the personalities of the posters tends to dominate the discussions, rather than the actual topics themselves. It's almost more like an online club at times, with its own jargon and culture. And, understandably, some people are put off by this. But this week, all of this became a selling point thanks to the efforts of posters The (PFKaP) and brebro, who turned all this self-reference into something very, very entertaining. (Both are slightly not work safe because of language.)

"Board Harder" by brebro ...

"(Forums We) Board Hard" by The (PFKaP) ...

Of course, there are actual discussions that take place on the forums. For instance, Xpress Managing Editor Jon Elliston kicked off one of the more interesting local threads this week by asking about Asheville's freak history, asking the MX Boarders to help complete a timeline of "freak" milestones in local culture. Other noteworthy threads this week include the very silly Will Peoples' thread, about Asheville's very own tall-tale hero, and a thread about stupid things the posters did as kids.

And for those who think the forums need a little IRL action, poster Mister Waffles suggested that it's time for the First Annual Mountain X Boarders Convention.

Of course, these topics are just a small selection of the hundreds of discussion threads on the Mountain Xpress forums. Don’t see a discussion about that burning topic you’d like to talk about? • To be fair, "(Forums We) Board Hard" is a product of the Xpress Forums Click (the XFC), and not The (PFKaP).

    • That's strange, but I was definitely out of the loop on the creation of that video and song. I'd gotten the impression it was mostly a Piffy thing. Who else is in the XFC?

    • The XFC is a collective. Sir Saggy Pants is our main vocalist these days, The PFKaP is our producer DJ, with backing vocals and guest appearances by the WireTap Girl. Our next single is rumored to have tatuaje, ashkat, and lil wayne supplying guest verses.

    • It's really cool to see how brebro has created a sort of alternative reality for the boarders where we're all represented by action figures. It's strange, but at times I've caught myself writing a reply to, say, bobaloo, and picturing him as the Captain America toy rather than a real person sitting in front of a computer somewhere. The two music videos here have only made that impression harder to shake.

    • Um. Maybe bobaloo is actually a Captain America toy.

    • Well I do have a Captain America outfit, but I don't wear it in public. Much.
