Here's a quick look at this week's Asheville City Council agenda:
• Election season is coming, so Council is set to discuss the possibility of creating more early polling venues. Early voting has been increasing in popularity and is credited with increasing voter turnout. But adding new satellite sites means added costs — in the neighborhood of $15,000 per site.
• Last winter, Council declined to draft language opposing the transportation of spent nuclear fuel through Asheville. Now, Council will consider receiving a grant allowing for a study to tell just what is being hauled along our highways.
• Through repairing its lines, Black Mountain has decreased the amount of water it needs to buy from Asheville, so the city will discuss making the necessary adjustments.
• And more stimulus funds means more sidewalks and bike improvements for the city. Don’t like stimulus funds paying for infrastructure? Council member Carl Mumpower is pitching an “Adopt a Traffic Island” program.
• Asheville City Council meets on the second floor of City Hall at 5 p.m. Click here for the complete agenda.
