"Multimodal transportation." Get used to that phrase, because it's sticking around. The movement is on in Asheville to break away from cars-only transportation, and Get There Asheville is at its forefront.
The group has already sent out and published online alternative-transportation surveys from candidates for Asheville mayor and City Council. See the responses here.
And tonight (Thursday), Get there Asheville will host a forum on multimodal transportation at the Clingman Café, 242 Clingman Ave., from 7 to 9 p.m. A second transportation forum for cadidates who survive the primaries will be held Oct. 14.
Also on the transportation front, the city of Asheville is calling once again for public input into its Transit Master Plan. In April, a roomful of bus riders pored over transit maps and offered suggestions that resulted in new route and time reccomendations (see them here), and now the city wants more voices before seeking to finalize the draft.
Comments can be submitted to the city in writing to City of Asheville, ATTN: Transit Master Plan, P.O. Box 7148, Asheville, NC 28802 or via e-mail to iride@ashevillenc.gov.
