Breaking with their tradition of playing a Charlotte New Year's show, the catching-like-wildfire Avett Brothers announced today that the band will play the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on Dec. 31.

"As promised, we have just announced three new shows to end a great 2009 ... Help us ring in the New Year in Tennessee, North Carolina, and Georgia!" the Avetts posted on their Web site. "We are excited to be able to celebrate the start of a new year among our fans."

Tickets go on sale to the general public Thursday, Oct. 8. There's a pre-sale tomorrow for those signed up for the band's e-mail list.

The news comes a week after the band released its latest Rick Rubin-produced album, I and Love and You, which has been earning raves across the country. For a great long-form profile of the band, read Tommy Tomlinson of the Charlotte Observer's story here. For a link to a review of the album's reviews, check Ashevegas.com here.

And of course, Pitchfork weighs in.
