Short Street Cakes on Haywood will throw a grand old hoopla this Sunday, Feb. 14, to celebrate its first year in business. The shop opened last year on Mardi Gras, so naturally this year owner Jodi Rhoden, staff and friends will laissez le bon temps rouler. On her blog, My Life in Cake, Rhoden says:
“Come celebrate the Cake Shop's First Birthday with us! We would like to thank you for a stellar first year at our Haywood Road location, and toast to many cake-full years to come! Live music, a cake raffle to benefit AMURT/Haiti Fund, Treats, Beverages, and so much love we won't even know what to do with ourselves! Specials on Valentine's Sweethearts and Broken Hearts Cakes, Mardi Gras Beads, King Cake, and much much more!”
Just before the Super Bowl, the little cake shop that could made news with its bacon cupcakes — and rightly so. In case you haven’t heard, the buzz is on about Short Street’s latest indulgence:
“Today, the first batch of our much-debated and long-anticipated bacon-apple cupcakes came out of the kitchen and into the cupcake case! People have been asking. A lot. So here it is: Cinnamon Pound Cake! Bacon! Apples Fried in Bacon Grease! Cream Cheese Icing!”
Jamarcus Gaston of WSPA Greenville's Scene on 7 samples the bacon cupcakes, which he quickly proclaims to be a little bite of heaven:
