The Mountaineer (Waynesville) details a 10-percent drop in business seen by gas stations, restaurants, other enterprises most affected by the I-40 rockslide that closed the interstate — and the tough winter that has hampered repair and kept motorists away.

Here's an excerpt from the article by Vicki Hyatt and Kim Gardner:
“We were really distressed when we got the news Tuesday afternoon that they’ve extended (the opening of I-40),” [Citgo owner Michael] Sorrells said. “It’s been a hard winter. We’ve suffered a huge downturn in the economy, had the closure of I-40 and then the bad weather. We’re barely hanging on.”
