“Race in Black Mountain: Then and Now” is the topic of a public forum scheduled Friday, April 30, from 1 to 2 pm at the Lakeview Center Clubhouse. News anchor Darcel Grimes of WLOS-TV will moderate the discussion, following brief presentations by four prominent local leaders:
• O.L. Sherrill, retired high school principal
• Joan Brown, member of the Board of Aldermen
• Carlos Showers, member of the Board of Aldermen
• Jane Hancock, past board member, Building Bridges of Asheville
The event is part of a nationwide awareness day, Stand Against Racism, sponsored by the YWCA USA and locally by the YWCA of Asheville. Organizers in Black Mountain hope the program will result in dialogues among people of different races in our community.
Local sponsors include:
• Black Mountain Presbyterian Church
