President Obama and First Lady Michelle arrived at the Asheville Airport just after 1 p.m. on Friday, April 23. They waved briefly to members of the White House Press Pool as they exited Air Force One to join a motorcade of black Ford SUVs and head into town.
According to citizen reports via Twitter, the Obamas went straight to 12 Bones Smokehouse for lunch, where the president also ate on his last visit to Asheville in October of 2008. As he did then, Obama mingled and posed for photos with local restaurant goers.
The motorcade then whisked the Obamas off to the Blue Ridge Parkway to go hiking.
