There's already been plenty of buzz about the inaugural Moogfest, scheduled for Halloween weekend (Friday-Sunday, Oct. 29-31). Early lineup leaks included Thievery Corporation, Massive Attack (below) and Big Boi.
This morning the entire lineup (with a promise of further announcements to come) was released. Here's the official announcement (scroll down for the schedule):
"AC Entertainment is excited to release the (still expanding) lineup of MoogFest 2010! As previously announced, this extraordinary three-day festival, celebrating the innovative vision of sonic pioneer, Robert Moog, will take place Halloween weekend, October 29-31, in Asheville, NC. Costumes are welcome. . . and clearly treats will be in abundance!
"The MoogFest 2010 weekend kicks off on Friday with performances by the previously announced MGMT and Big Boi, plus Girl Talk (above), Panda Bear, RJD2 and others. Artists joining Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation and Jonsi for Saturday at the festival will include Four Tet, Caribou, Emeralds, and Matmos. The festival’s final day will be a Halloween party like none other, with performances by Hot Chip and Pretty Lights topping the bill.
"Also confirmed to appear at MoogFest 2010 are EL-P, Dan Deacon, School of Seven Bells, Saturn Never Sleeps (Featuring King Britt & Rucyl), Dâm-Funk, Nortec Collective Presents: Bostich & Fussible, the Octopus Project (above) , Jon Hopkins, Mimosa, Kuroma, Mountain Man, DJ Spooky (below) and Two Fresh.
"These internationally renowned performers, known for pushing creativity towards new dimensions, will play in multiple venues throughout downtown Asheville, including the Asheville Civic Center Arena, the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, and Asheville’s world-class club, the Orange Peel." Tickets go on sale Friday, Aug. 13 at noon. Prices are: $149.50/weekend festival pass; $75/single-day ticket for Friday, Saturday or Sunday; $349.50/VIP Weekend pass — including priority access to all venues, exclusive viewing, a one-year membership to PULP and more (service fees will be added at each price-point.) $1 from each ticket is donated to the Bob Moog Foundation. A little more info about the tickets: "General admission passes and tickets offer access to all moogfest 2010 venues for the corresponding day purchased, subject to each venue’s capacity. Entry is not guaranteed and will be based on a first-come, first-served basis."

Just got back from Lollapalooza and saw many real bands ... did not dig the electronic stuff like MGMT, LCD Soundsystem ... I like the real thing.
I did most of the music scene here but will pass on this festival ... enjoy all the knob turners.

Great line-up but the ticket prices are ridiculous. I was planning on seeing Thievery but also wanted to see DJSpooky...that means I would have to fork over $150.00 bucks. Outer Space ticket prices yet they only donate a buck to the MOOG foundation? What a joke.

Dear AC Entertainment: Nice Line-up. Here's the dilemma, there is nobody that I know locally that is into this kind of stuff that can afford these passes. We understand that this costs money, perhaps the shows need to be charged per venue, per show with a less stratospheric price. Also, nothing local, but I guess that is how that is. Best of luck.

I think all of you people who don't think you'll be able to get in to see [insert band name here] should relax! The promoters are not going to do something stupid like schedule Thievery Corp and Massive Attack at the same time or book bigger bands at the Orange Peel. I am pretty confident everyone will get to see the shows you want to see. These people have been promoting shows for a long time....they are not rookies. All of the artists will be playing to venues that are in line with the capacity they normally have at their shows.

Not an inspiring lineup. DJs and rappers? Pleeeease. Moogfest is 30 years (maybe more) too late. Maybe Hot Chip is worth seeing, but not at these prices. Throw down John Foxx and maybe it would be worth the pain.

Great lineup! This is not really my scene, but I can appreciate a good show and there will be some good ones in there. I would pay 150 dollars to see this same lineup out at Deer Fields over an October weekend in the mountains, but not to stand in line at 4 to make sure I can get in to see Thievery Corp. at midnite. I hope everyone gets to see the bands they are looking for, but I don't see how that could work if everyone that buys a ticket wants to see the same show. Next year take it to Deer Fields!
