WNC Aids Project preps for annual auction, calls for art entries

Here's the press release from the Western North Carolina Aids Project:

Asheville, NC -- The Western North Carolina AIDS Project (WNCAP) is gearing up for its annual "Raise Your Hand" auction and dinner, scheduled to take place this year on Saturday, September 24th at the Doubletree Hotel, Biltmore. The cornerstone of the auction is the highly sought after Signature Piece Award. Artists from throughout Western North Carolina are invited to participate in this highly coveted award contest, which is now underway.

Last year’s winner was Asheville artist Dawn Rentz, whose mixed media painting on panel “Gone Too Long” was selected. Previous Signature Piece winners include River Arts District artists Karen Weihs, Barbara Fisher, Steve Janton, and acclaimed Ceramic Artist - Steven Forbes de Soule.

The Signature Piece will be displayed in newspapers and magazines across the region, as well as on the Raise Your Hand poster, program cover, website, and all printed materials that support WNCAP’s event.

All artists wishing to participate in the competition should visit the WNCAP website at www.wncap.org/ryh or contact the WNCAP office at 828-252-7489, for details on submitting an entry. The deadline for entries is July 8th.

In addition to featuring great art from local artisans, the WNCAP auction will also offer a selection of fine wines, vacation trips, antiques, and special culinary delights from Asheville’s finest local restaurants. Tickets go on sale July 15th on the WNCAP website, www.wncap.org/ryh -

WNCAP is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing HIV-related services to the people of North Carolina, through client support, prevention education and outreach activities, in a collaborative and financially responsible manner. The agency has been in operation since 1986.
