In addition to displaying the flower show entries, the show will have hundreds of blooms on display by the Carolinas Dahlia Society, the Blue Ridge Rose Society and the Ikabana Society. Also, Buncombe County Extension Master Gardeners will be available to answer garden questions each, except Tuesday during entry of Second Show. A series of informational "mini-talks " will be presented as well on topics including: Compost Happens, Edibles in Containers, Growing Roses in WNC, Growing Herbs, Chrysanthemums and more.
WNC Gardeners of all ages are invited to participate. Entries for the Standard Flower Show are must be delivered on Wednesday, September 8, 10:00am-7:00pm and will be judged by accredited experts from around the region. The second show begins with entries on Tuesday, September 14, 10:00am - 7:00pm. All exhibitors must provide their own clear glass containers for specimen displays.
"We encourage all WNC home gardeners to enter this show," says Pat Barnes, Master Gardener volunteer, "But even if you don't enter, any home gardener will love seeing the beautiful flowers and plants at this exhibit."
Cash prizes of more than $13,000 and ribbons are given to top winners. Categories for youth entries are from ages 6-19 as well. Flower and garden enthusiasts, beginners or veterans, and garden clubs may enter one or both shows.
