Leslie Winner, Executive Director of the Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation, will be the featured speaker at this year’s “Friends of the River” Dinner held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at The Venue (www.ashevillevenue.com) in Asheville. The space is unique with exposed brick walls and barn-like ceilings, and the formal dinner includes a cash bar. The festivities will begin with local entertainment provided by Jim Magill. The highlight of the dinner will be the presentation of the “Friends of the River” Award to several highly deserving recipients for their achievements in promoting the protection of the River and its tributaries. Many individuals and organizations have been recognized over the past three decades by Land-of-Sky Regional Council. “This year we have several outstanding recipients who care deeply about the river -- their time and efforts make a difference to the quality of life we all enjoy in WNC,” said Bill Eaker with the Regional Council. “We hope people of the region will come out and help us show our appreciation to the award winners for their contributions to the preservation and improvement of the French Broad.” Buncombe County Commissioner David Gantt will serve as the Master of Ceremonies.
Current sponsors include: Asheville Global Environmental, Baker Engineering, Brooks Engineering, Equinox Environmental, HomeTrust Bank, Luther E. Smith & Associates, McGill Associates, Metropolitan Sewerage District, Mountain Environmental Group, and Vaughn & Melton.
The dinner is open to all interested individuals; however, reservations are required. There is a $17.00 charge for the dinner provided by The Venue. Reservations can be made by emailing Annie@landofsky.org . The deadline for reservations is September 20, 2010.Read the full article
