Citizen-Times: Tourists players learn how to deal with long season

Half of a South Atlantic League campaign (70 games) is longer than full collegiate regular season, which means many of the Asheville Tourists experiencing their first full season of professional baseball are learning how to survive a grind of more than six months of playing games almost every day.

After a three-day break for the Sally League All-Star Game, the Tourists began second-half play Thursday night at McCormick Field vs. Rome (Ga.).

“It was nice to get away from the game for a couple of days and get recharged,” said Asheville pitcher Tyler Matzek, who stayed in Asheville for the break. Matzek was drafted out of high school in 2009.
