My answer: To avoid controversy, I'm going with “…or what.”
Real answer: I have indeed devoted an entire column to this conundrum before, and the upshot from experts is this: It's supposed to be “Lester,” because, well, the place is named after Leicester, England, and that's how they say it. Also, “Leicester” is a man's name, pronounced “Lester.”
