Ever wondered what it's like backstage or on stage at a theatre? A new series, the Diana Wortham Theatre Stage Door Series takes audiences "under the lights and ropes." The series' inaugural show (on Tuesday, Oct. 26), An Evening with Holiday Childress promises to be an imaginative, intimate (and possibility a little spooky: this is just before Halloween) event.

Childress, perhaps best know as the lead singer of theatrical alt-rock band The Goodies, has been enthralling audiences since the 1990s with eerie/zany/twisted/fun songs backed by riveting performance. He's been tapped by dance company Terpsicorps Theatre of Dance to collaborate in productions like he Many Deaths of Edward Gorey and the Dream Project. Press for the Diana Wortham show says Childress' "skills range from folk to vaudeville, poignant-pop and cultural narratives that range across the full spectrum of the art. Holiday’s whimsy and wisdom have entertained audiences across the country."
About the Stage Door Series: "Enter through the Stage Door to discover the feeling of being backstage and come on a roller coaster ride of songs and stories with one of Asheville’s most remarkable performers. ...Enjoy an evening of entertainment so intimate you’ll feel like you’re on stage because you are."
Show time is 8 p.m. Advance Tickets available at Lola Hair Salon (60 Biltmore Avenue). Info: Bunk Bed Productions at 273-5769.
