    • He might wish he'd declined if he can't do better than the non-answers he gave in response to the questionnaire referenced in the piece.

You beat me to the punch with your astute comment which did indeed translate into reality once they opened their mouths to speak.

Is the "best" we can find in Western North Carolina to run for this very important office??

    • Miller was impressive today, especially when he had a chance to talk, when NOT interrupted by the over zealous power monger Shuler.

Miller was well prepared and not quick to cut off Shuler like Shuler did him...

If you think Shuler could be elected Speaker of the House, you're dreamin...him too. Ive heard WAY more positive Miller response than for Shuler,
and Miller leads in online polls locally!

    • That's an pretty savvy move on Shuler's part to say that he'll run for speaker of the house if no one is acceptable to him. With the D's blowing a historical advantage in the house in one election, Pelosi likely won't run for any leadership position again. Furthermore, the D's won't be selecting the speaker; so it's a promise that Heath never has to fulfill - all while creating the appearance of a leader who will do anything for WNC.

    • Joe Plumber -- Regarding Miller's "only interest being to serve the people", how do you reconcile that with the Republican support for tax breaks and loopholes for corporations who send jobs overseas? One assumes that if elected he would vote with the Republican party on this type of question.

I'm all in favor of basically free trade, but the trade rules aren't written by the people. They're written by the very largest companies we have. Just curious how voting to best serve the corporate interests will also best serve the people of WNC?

    • Maybe now that Shuler cannot be threatened with exclusion by the Democratic minority, he can be a true Blue Dog instead of Pelosi's Lap Dog.

Then again, if he does he will probably be replaced with a more loyal party hack. No good deed goes unpunished.
