FROM THE RED CROSS
The Thanks for Giving Blood Drive supporting the American Red Cross and organized by UNC-Asheville student, Ashley Peterson, will be held Wednesday, November 24, in the ballroom of the Haywood Park Hotel, located at 1 Battery Park Avenue in downtown Asheville. The drive will be held 10 am - 3:30 pm and has a goal of collecting 100 pints.

The Thanks for Giving Blood Drive is being held during the busy holiday season when blood donations often decline, while the need for blood remains constant. Holidays typically mean families, including many blood donors, are on vacation, traveling or out of school on high school and college campuses.

All presenting donors will receive an American Red Cross holiday ornament, free movie tickets from Cinebarre and will be automatically entered in the Fly into the Holidays promotion for a chance to win one of two pair of Delta Air Lines tickets.

The Thanks for Giving Blood Drive is also giving all presenting donors the opportunity to truly give this holiday season with representatives on-site and sign-up opportunities available with several lifesaving organizations. Donors can learn more about bone marrow typing with Be the Match and organ procurement opportunities with LifeShare of the Carolinas.

The Carolinas Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross provides lifesaving blood to 103 hospitals and must have 1,600 people give blood and platelets each weekday to meet patient needs. Blood can be safely donated every 56 days.

Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.

To schedule an appointment, please call 777-3364 or visit on-line at redcrossblood.org and enter sponsor code 1528.
