FOREST CITY, NC -- Lt. Governor Walter Dalton issued the following statement regarding North Carolina being chosen by Facebook, the world’s leading social networking service connecting more than 500 million people, as the new site for a multi-million dollar data center in Rutherford County:
“The opening of this data center is a shining example of the public and private sectors working together to create new opportunities for North Carolina communities.
This project also represents a tremendous and important transition from our state’s traditional industries to the world’s new knowledge-based economy. For over 100 years, Rutherford County clothed the world as a textile giant. Today, Rutherford County will be playing a role in connecting the world.
As a native of Rutherford County, I welcome Facebook to my home. I can assure the leadership at Facebook that this is a decision that they will be proud of making.
As the national media has indicated, North Carolina is helping to lead the nation out of the Great Recession. When it comes to this growing field and so many others, North Carolina is open for business.”Read the full article
