I'd like to say I'm in some way responsible (I'm not) for last night's goings on: Ever since I discovered New Orleans-based indie rockers Generationals (label-mates and sometimes tour-mates with Asheville's Floating Action), I've been downloading their albums and campaigning via Twitter for the band to return to Asheville. This fall they're opening a number of dates for Mates of State — but not Mates of State's Orange Peel show on Monday, Oct. 3.
It was Seth Kauffman of Floating Action who broke the news on Twitter yesterday: On their way to Hopscotch Music Festival in Raleigh, Generationals would swing through Asheville and play a secret show at BoBo Gallery. That performance happened last night — starting around 10 p.m. Generationals (songwriting duo Ted Joyner and Grant Widmer with keyboardist Vaughn Daigle, bassist Preston Whittenberg and drummer Juston Stens) broke out an hours' worth of material and a lights display for a small but appreciative crowd.
