About 300 people crammed into a room at the Sherrill Center to hear Dr. Patch Adams speak as part of UNC Asheville's Well-A-Bration week on Saturday. Adams criticized psycho-therapeutic medications, and called depression a symptom of loneliness. Speaking on a college campus, he urged students to create a "happy club," an organization Adams described as a place where students could go and feel safe, happy and accepted.

Hunter “Patch” Adams spoke to UNC Asheville students and their visiting parents Saturday in the Wilma M. Sherrill Center, as part of Well-A-Bration week on campus.
“I dress this way so the person standing next to me isn’t able to stand there without starting a conversation,” Adams said.
In order to raise funds for his new hospital, The Gesundheit! Institute in West Virginia, Dr. Adams spends 300 days on the road a year giving lectures and spreading his experiences with anyone willing to listen...
The main focus of Dr. Adams’ talks is self-esteem.
“I’m an expert in living happy,” Adams said. “As a political act I try to be obnoxiously happy, dangerously happy.”

Patch says "Happiness is a choice" then it follows that misery is also a choice so you might want to ask yourself why would anyone choose to be miserable? Patch is definitely onto something worth looking into.
