This Sunday, Sept. 25, from 1-6 p.m., The Bywater (796 Riverside Drive) will host a benefit for Soldier’s Heart, a rehabilitative service for war veterans. Music by Bobby Miller & David Earl and the Plowshares will start at 3 p.m.. There will be plenty of grilling with side dishes donated by Roots Cafe and condiments donated by Amazing Savings. A silent art auction is also planned.
Soldier’s Heart is a nonprofit organization created to help veterans control the symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) by offering therapeutic retreats and counseling. The next Soldier’s Heart rehabilitative retreat in Asheville will be held Oct. 6-9. There are currently six local veterans who would like to attend but lack the financial means to do so. Proceeds from Sunday’s benefit will be used to help these veterans pay the tuition.
Vietnam War veteran Bill Liggin is a facilitator for Soldier's Heart and will speak at Sunday’s benefit. Gulf War veteran “Jess” will share his story about the positive impact Soldier’s Heart has had on him.
The Bywater requires that patrons have a membership which costs $5 and will be donated to the fundraiser. Call (828) 232-6967 for more info.
