Craft beer and microbreweries help keep economy Asheville afloat

If the city didn’t have craft beer, Chelsea Madison wouldn’t have a company.

Madison owns Crooked Condiments with partners Lee Nesbitt Madison and Nicholas Barr, who make mustard, hot sauce and apple butter in a Woodfin kitchen.

Their popular Gaelic Ale and Stealthy Ninja Porter mustards feature beer from two local breweries: Asheville Pizza & Brewing Co.’s porter and Highland Brewing Co.’s ale.

Following their devotion to local ingredients, the threesome cook up their mustards without water — only beer — to be sure the products include 60 percent of the homemade ingredient.
