Oktoberfest begins this weekend in Old Fort

Starting Friday, young and old can enjoy three days of fun activities at the Oktoberfest celebration in Old Fort. And for the first time, the annual celebration will include fireworks.

Oktoberfest is held by the Old Fort Chamber of Commerce on the grounds of the Mountain Gateway Museum during the first weekend of October. The free three-day event will be held from 9 a.m. until dark both Friday and Saturday and from noon until dark on Sunday.

Chamber Executive Director Rick Acrivos said Wednesday this year’s family-oriented event will have more than 30 vendors for arts and crafts, food and local organizations. Students from Old Fort Elementary will play dulcimers Friday morning to open the 2011 Oktoberfest.
