Ex-cop pleads guilty to embezzlement in Marion

David “Bo” Curry’s voice quivered and tears welled up in his eyes Tuesday as he told a judge he stole nearly $10,000 from a local police charity.

Curry pleaded guilty to a single count of embezzlement at the Burke County Courthouse just after 9:30 a.m. in a plea deal that kept Curry out of prison and prosecutors from filing additional charges.

Superior Court Judge Robert Bell suspended a five- to six-month prison sentence and placed Curry on probation for two years and six months. Curry must also repay the $9,705.63 investigators allege he stole from the Morganton/Burke chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police while he served as treasurer. He must also pay $1,800 to cover the cost of an audit.
