'Bike' magazine chooses Brevard as testing ground for its annual 'Gear Guide'

Eight men affiliated with Southern California-based Bike magazine have chosen the Brevard area as this year's testing ground — and playground — for the publication's annual Gear Guide, which hits newsstands in early 2012. ...

The magazine, which has done stories on the area in the past, chose renowned Western locations Whistler, British Columbia, and Bellingham, Wash., as destinations for its first two Gear Guides, though WNC was on the radar. ...

“Even though North Carolina may not get the same sort of recognition as places like Whistler and Moab (Utah), we keep coming back because the trails are amazing,” [Vernon] Felton said. “It's one of the best places to ride and, frankly, it's got a fantastic combination of just great towns, good culture and an amazing network of trails.” [Felton is one of the magazine's editors.]Read the full article
