Here's the announcement from Green Drinks, the weekly enviro social hour:
A Report Back From Occupy Wall Street from local business owner Tracy Kunkler
Note: We will be skipping the standard mingle portion of our program from 5:30 to 6. Tracy will start her talk at 5:30. Get there early to get a good seat!
Tracy Kunkler, a local business owner and non-profit consultant based in Asheville, went to NYC to “Occupy Wall Street” from Saturday morning, Oct 1 to Monday evening, Oct. 3. She will share photos and her experiences during those 3 days, including her experience peacefully marching across the Brooklyn Bridge and NOT getting arrested. Tracy went to observe the General Assembly process by which hundreds of people, daily in Liberty Plaza, are organizing their efforts and deciding strategy by consensus. She’ll answer the question: do anarchists make good committee members? And, she’ll ask you to join in the discussion: where is this “Occupy” movement heading?
If you would like to experience the democratic process of the OccupyAsheville democratic General Assembly, it will take place nearby at 7 PM that night.
The groups involved in Green Drinks do not take a position on the Occupy Wall Street movement, but welcome the opportunity to hear from a respected consultant about what this might mean and how to relate to it.
Presenter: Tracy Kunkler joined the Sims & Steele team in 2008; today she is a Partner and leads the S&S team of four grant writers, who have collectively raised millions of dollars. Tracy has over 20 years in the non-profit/ government sector, and specializes in fundraising, grant writing, and in facilitating effective groups, particularly in strategic planning and consent decision-making. Tracy is a graduate of Leadership Asheville 20 and has a Masters in Social Work from UNE. She lives in West Asheville with her son.
Program: 5:30PM
Location: Posana Cafe, 1 Biltmore Avenue in downtown Asheville
