The public is invited to address the North Carolina House Select Committee on Certificate of Need and Related Hospital Issues during a committee meeting on issues facing health care costs and government regulations in North Carolina. The event will take place on Thursday, October 20, 2011, 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., at the Virginia C. Boone Mountain Heritage Building, WNC Ag Center, 1301 Fanning Bridge Rd., Fletcher, North Carolina. The meeting will open with presentations to the Committee and will close with public comment.
The Committee Co-chairs, Representative John Torbett and Representative Fred Steen, invite members of the public with experience or concerns with the current health care service planning in our State to attend. This Select Committee was created under the authority of the Hon. Speaker of the House Thom Tillis to study and evaluate the system of State regulation of health care services, facilities, and equipment and its impact on health care costs. The Committee includes: 11 members of the North Carolina House of Representatives: Fred Steen, John Torbett (Chairs); Martha Alexander; Marilyn Avila; Jamie Boles; Marcus Brandon; Jeff Collins; William Current; Rick Glazier; Mark Hollo, and Shirley Randleman.
The Committee is directed to examine and make recommendations to the General Assembly on ways to improve the delivery of health services to people in North Carolina. As part of the information gathering process, the Committee members are interested in public input. Individuals who wish to address the Committee may sign-up between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., immediately prior to the hearing and are asked to limit comments to five minutes. Speakers are encouraged to furnish a written copy of their comments if possible.
