The McDowell County United Way is not a part of the international United Way organization and has gone back to its original name. ...
“The biggest change for us right now is we are not a United Way anymore,” said Price. “We were a United Fund for 30 years before we joined the United Way. We aren’t technically a United Way anymore. We are the McDowell County United Fund, which is how we started.”
The local organization decided to split with the United Way Worldwide because of differences in how the money raised here should be used.
“They wanted more of our campaign money,” said Price.
