ASHEVILLE – The Asheville Police Department received a call reference a bear sighting at approx. 1212 pm today at 167 Virginia Ave., in West Asheville. Upon arrival APD officers observed one large adult bear and three cubs setting up residence in a neighborhood tree.

The bears did not appear aggressive, however showed no inclination to “move along”. A call was sent out to residents to avoid the area for the near future. School transportation officials were also contacted to watch for the bears while unloading school children in the area.

NC Wildlife Commission officers were contacted and extra patrols have been coordinated in the area until such time as the bears decide to leave the area.
