Many non-emergency city communication lines down from construction accident

ASHEVILLE – A major communication line was accidently cut during a construction project around 10:15 a.m. this morning, resulting in communication interruptions for a number of city departments and divisions. Public safety communications have not been affected by the outage.

Currently, computer and telephone access is out for the public works department, Development Services Center and water maintenance division. Incoming customer service lines at 252-1122 are also down. While the line is being repaired, customers needing assistance can call the alternative numbers listed below for the following departments and/or divisions:

Public Works 707-7578
Water Maintenance 777-4139
Customer Service 258-4622

The Development Services Center will be able to provide limited services during the outage. Customers are encouraged to call 775-5996 to check on available services.

An update with an estimated time of repair will be released once more information is available.
