Livability.com says our city offers stunning views and much much more:

Great tours, like great stories, must have a good beginning. For the latest Top 10 List, Livability.com editors mapped out the 10 best cities to begin a scenic fall drive. These cities are located near natural wonderlands, lush forests and scenic mountainsides that burst with color when temperatures cool.

To make the list, cities not only had to be within proximity to scenic routes but also offer high quality-of-life amenities. Editors searched for places where visitors can do more than just take in the views.

“There are plenty of great places to drive and see fall color, but we wanted to find cities that are themselves a destination,” says John Hood, Livability.com spokesman. “These are cities with ample outdoor recreation and plenty of family-friendly activities.”

Fall may just be the best time to visit one of America's most livable cities. Surrounded by the lush Blue Ridge Mountains, Asheville literally glows red, orange and gold in autumn. Thrill and chill seekers alike can find a number of ways to enjoy the sights (and sounds) of the season. Adrenaline junkies can start their foliage tour on a zipline through the forest or while climbing craggy rocks or rafting wild waters. Those who prefer mild to wild can take a drive along the Blue Ridge Parkway and bask in the beauty of one of the country’s longest-lasting color displays.
