Announcement from the APD below:
ASHEVILLE – On 10-19-11 at approx. 1215 pm; APD Detectives were contacted by representatives from Mission Hospital in reference to a child death that had occurred earlier in the day.
According to hospital personnel, a 4 year old male child was brought by ambulance to Mission Hospital reference a possible cardiac arrest and eventually died. Hospital personnel advised APD Detectives that there were a number of questionable injuries associated with the death of the child worthy of investigation.
The original call came in to EMS personnel at 9:42 am to respond to 8E Pisgah View Apartments reference an unconscious and unresponsive child. An autopsy will be performed later this week.
APD Detectives are currently investigating this case, along with the assistance of District Attorney Ron Moore’s office. Anyone with information surrounding the death of this child is asked to contact Detective Mandy Buchanan at 259-5914 or crimestoppers at 255-5050.
