The sweltering weekend heat will only get worse today: Temperatures in Asheville are expected to reach 91 degrees, just shy of the record of 92 degrees, set back in 1993, according to accuweather.com. As is typical for this time of year, there's around a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Temperatures are expected to drop to 66 degrees tonight with humidity levels reaching a near-saturation point 97 percent in the early morning hours.

Tomorrow, things are expected to cool down just a bit, with a high temperature of around 88, with a 75 percent chance of thunderstorms.

On the astronomical front, the sun will set at 8:48 p.m. today, with the moon hanging around until 2:49 a.m. Total daylight today will be 14.4 hours.
