Homeless Education Link Project runs out of resources, new nonprofit hopes to help

The cupboards are bare for the Homeless Education Link Project, which helps homeless students in Henderson County. The project used up all its resources to assist 317 students last year, said Christine Craft, HELP case manager.

This year, 153 students have been identified as living in a homeless situation — and it's only November.

"We're just glad to take what we can get," Craft said about donations.

A new nonprofit in the area, Only Hope WNC, is holding a "Help the Homeless Youth" drive this month to collect needed items, from backpacks and school supplies to gas cards and toilet paper.
