Tags:Here's an excerpt of the Asheville Citizen-Times editorial endorsing the quarter-cent sales tax referendum to benefit A-B Tech:
Perhaps it’s just the nature of the modern election cycle, but recent days of the debate over the quarter-cent sales tax increase proposed for A-B Tech have been marked by a level of enmity bordering on remarkable.
Opponents saw sinister motives in the background. Proponents, particularly the political action committee Join Our Buncombe Solutions, handled criticism and questions that seemed, to put it politely, clumsy at best. ...
One thing that has struck us is the level of respect A-B Tech carries even among critics of the sales tax. A consistent theme from those critics is that they wish the institution the best but differ with the approach being taken to help A-B Tech.
Given that, we’ll say it again: The level of acrimony surrounding this issue is remarkable.
... A-B Tech is an indispensable part of the prosperity of WNC, now and in the future.
That future should include the best possible Asheville-Buncombe Technical Community College possible.
We urge voters to approve this measure on Tuesday.
