NC DOT announces:
The N.C. Department of Transportation will hold a citizens’ informational workshop on Tuesday, Nov. 29, regarding the replacement of the bridge on East Fork Road over the East Fork of the French Broad River near Rosman in Transylvania County. The bridge, built in 1951, needs to be replaced due to its age and condition.
The workshop will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rosman High School, located at 749 Pickens Highway (U.S. 178). The public may drop in anytime during the workshop hours. Maps of the proposed project area will be displayed and NCDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project, answer questions and take comments. There will be no formal presentation. Comments and information received will be taken into consideration as work on the proposed project progresses.
NCDOT is proposing two design alternatives for replacing the bridge:
Alternate 1, which involves constructing a new bridge south of the existing one and maintaining traffic on the old bridge during construction; and
Alternate 2, which involves replacing the existing bridge with a new bridge at the current location. During construction, traffic would be detoured on to Walnut Hollow Road, Hannah Ford Road, Calvert Road, Old Rosman Highway and Pickens Highway (U.S. 178).
For additional information, contact Bryan Kluchar, NCDOT Project Development and Environmental Analysis, Bridge Section, at (919) 707-6174 or bdkluchar@ncdot.gov.
