Before sunrise on Thursday, Nov. 24,, Jus' Running race officials were making preparations at Carrier Park in Asheville for Earthfare Turkey Trot 5K. Based on the 2011 results tally, 1423 participants showed up to run and walk the race, which is a record over last year's 1351 who registered and the 1200 who actually showed up and crossed the finish line (*those who don't wear a timing chip aren't officially counted and can skew data by 50-100+ participants).
Runners and walkers of all types toed the start line at 9 a.m., including a crew from Asheville Fire Department that ran the race dressed in full gear — as if there were something to extinguish at the finish line.
Out of the gate:
Firemen in full gear running:
Though there was nothing to put out at the finish line, there certainly was something to put down: Earthfare brought a whole truck full of healthy Thanksgiving snacks, like: apples, bananas, bottled water, etc. etc. Over 200 photos, Youtube videos, and race results (to be posted in the notes section) are being uploaded to Jus' Running's Facebook Page, as they become available: http://www.facebook.com/jusrunning.
