From the Asheville Citizen-Times:

One group of first-graders at Avery’s Creek Elementary mixed and measured. They rolled out dough and baked it.

Another group then put all the pieces together. And a third group decorated the creation and got it ready for the National Gingerbread House Competition at the Grove Park Inn.

For teacher Kristen Dodd’s first-graders, the hours of work paid off with a second-place ribbon in their age category during the national competition.

The winners and other entries in the National Gingerbread House Competition are on display until New Year’s at the Grove Park Inn Resort & Spa. Free public viewing is Monday-Thursday only. Behind-the-scenes tours are available most days for a fee. To learn more, visit www.groveparkinn.com.
