Here's the press release from the RetireSafe group:
Representative Heath Shuler Honored for Service to Seniors
Retire Safe Presents 2011 “Standing Up for America’s Seniors” Award
(Asheville, NC)— Tuesday November 29th, 2011 at 10:15 AM the grassroots group RetireSafe, representing 400,000 seniors nationwide, and local senior advocates, will honor Representative Heath Shuler for his efforts to protect the health benefits and security of North Carolina’s seniors and disabled citizens.
Al Cors, Vice President of RetireSafe, will present the Standing Up For America’s Seniors Award commemorative plaque at his district office in Asheville at 205 College Street, recognizing Shuler’s accomplishments and service to older Americans.
A bipartisan group of Members of Congress are being recognized by RetireSafe on Capitol Hill and in their home districts throughout October and November. These members have acted to protect seniors’ health care benefits, by ensuring access to affordable medications through Medicare Part D, and opposing proposals that threaten to limit access to health care and increase premiums for seniors in the Medicare program.
“It seems Medicare is being attacked from all directions”, said Cors, “Seniors need champions in Washington who are on their side, who aren’t afraid to stand up and preserve the benefits that our older Americans have earned”, he continued. “RetireSafe felt it was time to stop for a moment, rise above the rhetoric, and recognize the Members of Congress who, in many different ways, have worked to protect this lifesaving and essential benefit”, he concluded.
Retire Safe is a nonprofit, nonpartisan grassroots organization that advocates and educates on behalf of America's seniors on issues regarding Social Security, Medicare, health and financial well-being.
