Twelve Buncombe County restaurant workers were detained in one of the largest immigration raids in the mountains, according to a local immigrants rights group.
Agents with Immigration and Customs Enforcement went into the Shogun Buffet Hibachi Grill & Sushi restaurant at 1000 Brevard Road Tuesday, said Ada Volkmer with Defensa Comunitaria.
“ICE went in around 10 a.m. before the restaurant opened and arrested the employees,” she said.
Volker said the agents detained eight people from Latin American countries and four Asian immigrants ranging in age from 23 to about 40. Some of the immigrants were from Mexico and El Salvador, she said. She didn’t know from which Asian country the four immigrants came.Read the full article
