Salvation Army bell ringer in Davidson tries to stop shoplifter

A bell ringer for The Salvation Army of Davidson County is credited for going above and beyond her duties in front of the Big Lots on Winston Road Thursday morning.

In her first year as a bell ringer, Holly Rouse, 26, was manning a kettle around 10:30 a.m. when she turned toward the store and noticed a man putting items in his back pocket.

“He didn’t go through the line,” she recalled Friday outside the store. “I told him when he got to the door that he needed to go back inside and pay for the merchandise. He told me, ‘You don’t tell me what to do.’”
