Where can you win an afternoon of butchery, discover the joys of bee keeping and maybe take home Alexander, an adorable chocolate lab puppy? The first annual Bids for Kids auction has a dizzying array of items to bid on, including a retreat at the Britton Family Lodge and private concerts with local musicians.

The best part is that you can help the community at the same time. The auction will support five area child-based nonprofits including the Mountain Area Child and Family Center, Helpmate, Caring For Children, Elida Homes, Inc. and Children First/CIS.

“Asheville Area Auctioneers called us and asked if they could help support our children,” says Jacque Penick, Executive Director of Mountain Area Child and Family Center, in a recent press release. “This type of unsolicited generosity is so rare and we are thankful to be one of the organizations that will benefit from Bids for Kids.”

The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14 at Brunk Auctions Gallery, 117 Tunnel Road in Asheville. The live auction begins at 6:30 p.m. It’s free to attend and wine and hors d’oeuvres are included.
